"Success! On 1st June I won the AG 16-19 Male Sprint in Pontevedra, Spain. I wouldn't have been there without this funding. Thank-you!"
Looking at the stats a massive 71% has come from fellow triathletes, a huge block of that is from members of my own Triathlon club, Nicetri of St Neots... If Carlsberg did triathlon clubs...! Saying that, there is still a little time to pledge if you have been meaning to ;)
BTW if I go over my target don't worry, every penny will go into my tri, plus I plan to eat when I get out there so any pledges won't go to waste!
P.S. just got back from competing at the European Duathlon Champs in Horst Holland. This was not a race I was targeting so very chuffed to pick up a silver medal.
Now that I have qualified to represent Great Britain in 2014 my goal is very simple, to get there, compete and do GB proud!
I have the opportunity and have qualified to compete in:
Horst (Netherlands) at the European Duathlon Championships (funded)
Pontevedra (Spain) at the World Duathlon Championships (Not funded )
Kitzbuhel (Austria) at the European Triathlon Championships (Funded – family Holiday!)
Edmonton (Canada) at the World Triathlon Championships (Not funded )
The money raised would go directly toward travel and entry fees for the two events I have not been able to fund myself so far. The entry fees alone, just for these two events are around £400! And travel makes up the rest.
I have always been a sporty kid, right from an early age where apparently I showed promise at gymnastics, I joined the prestigious Huntingdon Olympic Gymnastics Club, (where Louis Smith trains). I really enjoyed myself and won a few small competitions in the under 7 age groups.
I was now 8 years old and started running with Riverside Runners and was enjoying this so much, I wanted to concentrate mainly on the running.
Running then became my focus and I competed (and won!) many local races, mainly 3k (effectively distance running for kids!), and excelled
I was lucky enough to join Lincroft Middle School who have an excellent running history, (Paula Radcliffe attended a number of years before me!) and had great opportunities, taking part in many races including the National Schools Cross Country cup and National Schools Fell Running
Amongst other early running achievements, I ran for my county for 3 years at the National Cross Country Championships, took part in national relays and represented the county and eastern region in the London Mini Marathon twice.
I then found triathlon I am a member of NiceTri Club St Neots. I got in to triathlons rather late (I was 12!) after my running coach suggested I enter an Aquathlon - trouble was, I couldn't even swim! I had to learn to swim 300m in 1 month. I managed it, a slow time, but I managed it - I even came second in my age group.
I enjoyed competing in this race so much that I then wanted to do a 'proper' triathlon. First I needed a bike so we bought a real cheap road bike from ebay swapped the flat bars it had on to drops and I was ready. I completed my first junior triathlon soon after that. It has just grown and grown for me, getting more competitive as the seasons go by.
I'm proud to say along the way I have learnt to and built all of my bikes from the frame up, from parts bought off a well known "online auction site" OK so it's EBay, using the money that I have earned myself.
My sport in general is very expensive, the addition of competing for GB on the world stage ups the ante as you could expect. I have been given some fantastic support behind the scenes with coaching, sports therapy, nutrition and the like and quite frankly I would not be where I am today without it , thanks guys, you know who you are, for others check out my ‘sponsor’ page on my blog ;)
I also get great support from my triathlon club, NiceTri. My speed work from Hunts AC. Those great TT’s down at St Neots Cycling Club.
It also goes without saying I would not be where I am today without the fantastic and continuing support from my biggest fans, aka Mum and Dad.
It surprises many that there is little funding that I can get my hands on: funding is all down to me! To this end I have become a great believer of ‘help those that help themselves’ (mainly out of necessity) because my folks are not in the fortunate position to write out cheques as I’m sure they would if they could.
My immediate goal is to get back to race fit! I’ve had been missing much of my normal routine and it’s good to be back at it.
While this funding campaign is going on I have the European Duathlon Championships to smash
Amongst training, college and racing I recently started a small business printing names, sponsor logos etc. onto Tri-suits/kit of fellow athletes. I found that there was a gap in the market for this service. It’s going very well and I can see this being a great help over the coming years as I progress at the sport I love.
My long term goal is to get to the very top of my game!

A person posted on the European Championship group facebook page (I won’t mention their name) He said effectively that no matter how good you are you shouldn’t represent your country if you can’t afford it... I think that’s just wrong and with your help you can let him know he's wrong as well ;)
