"Talentbacker has given me the opportunity, help and support needed to make my ambitions a reality. They have taken me one step closer to achieving my goals. Very thankful to all the team and all the people that have supported me too. Would not have been possible without them, so thank you. I am extremely grateful. Here is to the future."
I would be using the money raised to pay for my travel expenses and entry fees to get me to the European Duathlon championships and World Duathlon and Triathlon Championships.
I am relatively new to the world of triathlon after transferring from athletics due to many years of injury. I quickly realised I had a missed talent and have had a very rewarding first season. I have had a lot of support from family and friends, getting me to events, cheering me on and helping to fund my entries and equipment. Without their help I would have really struggled.
I currently work as a freelance graphic designer and fit all of my training around this. It often means early morning sessions or after work, which is particularly tough. This is my main source of income to help fund my sporting ambitions. I currently compete for Hillingdon Triathletes and train with Charnwood Triathlon club at my base in Loughborough. Both clubs have key individuals who kindly donate their time to help us reach our goals for which I am very grateful.
My main short term goals for 2015 are the European and World Duathlon Championships next year. The qualifying events for these are October and March. I will also be aiming to get to the World Triathlon Championships in Chicago as well.Long terms goals are to make the transition to elite and make the Scotland team for The Commonwealth Games 2018. All of these Championships are self funded, both travel and entry, meaning I may not be able to attend all of these championships even if I qualify. Hopefully with your help these goals can become reality.
Before turning to triathlon this year I achieved a few key achievements within athletics:
Scottish Championships - 400m hurdles bronze
Scottish Schools Athletics Championships Pole Vault - Gold
Tayside and Fife County Championships - 400m & 400m hurdles - Gold and Championship Best Performances
My first year in triathlon has been great with many up and down races as I learn the event.
Main Achievements 2014:
East Fife Triathlon Club Triathlon - 2nd
Ashbourne Triathlon - 2nd
Rother Valley Triathlon GB Qualifier - 10th
England National Sprint Triathlon Championships - 12th
Parkrun 5ks - 1st - 3rd over 5 races
I have a lot of improvements to make and a lot of great ambitions over the next year. With my hard work and your help, making these championships will be a reality. I am looking forward to what the future brings. Thank you.
