"The money raised will support the 16 lads and take them one stop closer to their dreams in water polo. Thank you!"

A big thank you to everyone that supported us during our Talent Backer campaign. We reached our target and can now look forward to our trip to Hungary.

The money raised will support the 16 lads and take them one step closer to their dreams in water polo. Thank you!

17th May 2014 - We are really grateful to everyone that has donated so far and enabled us to reach our £1,500 target with still 2 weeks to go! All of us are a little bit shocked by this fabulous show of generosity.

This will help a lot, however the trip to Eger is costing around £8,000 so we are now hoping to push that target higher and try and reach the next level of £2,000.  Thanks for your support so far and if you can manage a little bit more you know how much it will help!

The lads have been training hard and with our international training event and games getting closer every day, we are all looking forward to this brilliant opportunity and experience.

This Talent Backer campaign and the support we have received has made us all more determined than ever to push ourselves harder and one day represent Lancaster and Great Britain at Senior Level.

Lancaster Water Polo Club has several players aged between 15 years and 18 years that have been recognised as talented. They have already represented the City and the North West and some are training with the GB squad aiming to play at international competitions.

European countries currently dominate the sport, due to the facilities they have to train their athletes. Eger, a town in Hungary that is world renowned for training Olympians, offers overseas clubs the opportunity to train with them.

Our water polo players want to travel to Eger where they will train and compete against some of the top water polo payers at their age group in Europe.

Our water polo players are looking for the support to pay for travel from UK to Hungary and back again!

The players and the coaches recognise the importance of European training to their development and improvement, this will make a huge difference to their progression and ultimately their sporting achievements.

Players receive a lot of support from their families. Often parents help out at the club: teaching swimming, team managing, time keeping and whatever they can do to support their children and the club.

Current Position

Such is the determination to attend the training abroad and raise funds, our water polo players have set up bag packing sessions at the local supermarket and quiz nights to help with funds. But this is on top of training five times a week and playing up to three games a week along with schoolwork, homework and getting ready for GCSE's!

The Future

The short term goals are to support and help the players be stronger, more confident and an all-around better team. The long term goal is to become the future players of the senior team and to keep in the Super 5s; which are the top 5 water polo teams in the country.

Individually the players want to represent Great Britain in the European Qualifiers and to keep supporting the regional team.

The trip will be inspiring…………..These players will be inspired…………….Future players will be inspired by these players…………….All because of this trip…….It is thanks to people like you who give so generously.

Lancaster is known as one of the top water polo clubs in Great Britain!

For this group of water polo players, with the current lack of funding of water polo and the steady withdrawal of money from UK sport, raising money through campaigns like this is the only way to fund trips like this.

It is a fantastic opportunity and will be a massive help to them in taking the next steps in the sport they enjoy doing and are so committed to.
