My dream/goal is to compete at the Olympics in Triathlon and to become a World Champion in my chosen distance
GoalAny money that I raise will be spent on travelling to races all around the world in my quest to qualify for the world championships and the Olympic games. It will also help me to receive the best coaching/physio and race on the best equipment. Triathlon in general is an extremely expensive sport and without outside help this becomes impossible to fund by myself. Basically the money would cover a new set of race wheels, and for me to race the world cup in Chengdu,China which would hopefully allow me to qualify for the European under 23 championships.
My quest to become an international triathlete started from a very young age. My parents had me riding a bike before I could walk, and swimming as soon I was of age. Running took me slightly longer to master, but I soon started winning races all over the country.
My first triathlon came when I was 11 years old, all the other kids had brand new bikes and I managed to beat them all. It was from then I realised this was my sport. I carried on improving through my teens twice becoming British champion at 14 and 15. In my late teens however I struggled with injuries and became frustrated and lost my motivation for the sport.
I went on to study at University and discovered the outdoors. At every opportunity I was out climbing or mountaineering across the British Isles. 2012 was a slow year and I still wasn't fully committed. Fortunately I managed to impress the triathlon Scotland coach and over the winter of 2012 he helped with my training and I started 2013 fairly strongly. I got a shock racing at an elite level again and realised how much the sport had come on since I had raced back in 2008. However I still managed to finish 11th in the British Senior Championships, 4th at the World Under 23 Aquathlon Championships and won the Wasdale Half Iron Man.
I have now graduated from university and my parents and triathlon Scotland are helping me to pursue my goal even further and allowing me to train as a full time athlete. I am now based in Stirling training with the Scottish squad in preparation for the Commonwealth Games. My journey to where I am now wouldn't have happened without all the support I have had over the years. My parents have supported me every day through the ups and downs and are also an inspiration to me. My PE teachers were always supportive throughout. North Yorkshire and Hambleton district Council have funded me throughout my school years giving me free use of the gyms and swimming pools in my local area.
I am currently based in Stirling at the high performance centre for triathlon where I am training with the Scottish triathlon squad on a daily basis in preparation for the Commonwealth Games. I have moved away from my parents comforts and have completely committed myself to pursuing my dream. I am living in rented accommodation within a few miles of the training facilities to keep it as cheap as possible.
My season begins at the British Elite Duathlon Championships on the 30th of March then my first European Cup Triathlon is in Portugal on the 13th of April. In May I plan to fly out to Chengdu in China to compete in my second world cup event to hopefully gain some qualification points. The rest of the season isn't planned yet but hopefully these early season races will help me decide on my focus.
My 2014 goals are to qualify for the Under 23 European Championships, Commonwealth Games and the World Under 23 Championships in Edmonton. My longer term goals are to represent GB in 2020 and to become a world champion in either the standard Olympic distance or longer Half Iron Man or full iron man events.
If I didn't manage to raise my target many of these races that I plan to go to would be out of the question, and therefore I would have to race within the UK. This may not sound such a bad thing, but I wouldn't gain any qualification points for future Olympics/ World Championships. Even small amounts of donations may allow me to race once more, or have that extra physio session which can make huge differences in the larger scale.

In a closing message I would like to thank you for taking time to consider me as an athlete and I hope this has helped you understand more about my sport and what it means to me for the future. My dream is to represent Great Britain at an Olympic Games and to become a world champion, and with your help this process will make it that bit easier and more realistic.
I know there are lots of young talented athletes/triathletes out there asking for funding but I believe that I have the desire and dedication to become one of the select few that make their dreams become reality.
